Weightier Matters
Weighter Matters is for anyone in a Jubilee+ Partner Church who is interested in exploring the theology and practicalities of how we bring mercy and seek justice for those facing poverty.
Jesus said that justice and mercy are the "weightier matters" of God (Matthew 23:23) and the Weightier Matters course is an opportunity for those of us who are involved in social action, justice or mercy ministries (or professions) to spend 10 evenings online with Natalie and others from the Jubilee+ team over the course of 2025 to:
– Develop a deeper understanding of the biblical basis for what we do;
– Encourage and be encouraged by others with a shared heart and passion;
– Wrestle with some of the difficult Scripture passages on this subject;
– Gain and share insights on the practicalities of church-based social action;
– Ask and answer questions about poverty and faith.

Topics will include the offense of poverty, types of poverty, true religion, the Year of Jubilee, poverty in a Western context, empowerment not dependency, getting mercy and justice into the DNA of your church, sharing power, influencing the powerful, releasing people to do what's on their heart, getting everyone in involved, starting or scaling back projects, and more...
